During the decoration process, people often ask how much putty powder is needed for 1 square meter? Or how many square meters can be scraped with 1 bag of putty powder? Today we will talk to you about the calculation method of the approximate amount of putty powder and provide a reference for data calculation!
In fact, there are many factors that affect the amount of putty used, such as the type of putty (different thicknesses), construction technology, etc., which will affect the specific amount of putty powder used, but the biggest influence is the flatness of the base surface and the thickness of the scraping.
If the base surface is uneven, it is recommended to use cement mortar to roughly level the base surface for the first time, control the base error within 3-5mm, and then use putty products for fine leveling.
There are two advantages to doing this. The first is cost saving. If the base surface error is more than a few centimeters, a large amount of putty will be needed, and the cost is much higher than using cement sand.
Second, the properties of putty itself determine that it is not suitable for rough leveling. When the thickness exceeds a certain level, the putty layer may crack. The thickness of the scraping should also be well
controlled. Different types of putty have different requirements for the
thickness of the scraping.
Therefore, we recommend that the complete putty scraping process should be to check the flatness of the base surface first. If the flatness exceeds 3-5mm, use cement sand for rough leveling to control the flatness within 3-5mm; then use the inner wall base putty for fine leveling; finally, use the inner wall surface putty for fine leveling.
Calculation method of batch brushing area
Brushing area = use area × 3 (usually 2-3 times)
1KG of putty powder can apply about 0.8 square meters of area (depending on the thickness of the putty, the flatness of the wall, the construction conditions, and the thickness of the putty, there will be errors, and the data is for reference only)
Note: If the area of a house is 100 square meters (not the indoor area), it usually needs 2-3 coats of putty. You will get about 250 square meters (200-300 square meters, take the middle value of about 250 square meters), 250 square meters/0.8 is 310KG, each bag is 20kg, and you will get about 16 bags of putty powder.
What should I do if there is color difference in putty powder?
Putty powder is often used in wall painting. It adheres firmly to the wall and is not expensive. Therefore, it has been on the market for many years and still has a high usage rate. However, during the scraping construction process, we may encounter a situation where the scraped putty has color difference. What is going on with the color difference of the putty?
01 Why does color difference occur during putty powder construction?
1.Putty powder itself is a semi-finished product. The instability of raw materials is one of the main reasons for color difference. Since the quality of mineral powder mined from mining areas varies from region to
region, if you don’t pay attention to the mixing, color differences will occur in different batches.
2.Because some manufacturers use the method of "filling the gap" to mix low-grade raw materials and ship them, because the purchased quantity is large, it is impossible to conduct random inspections one by one, resulting in some "slipping through the net" mixed in the production, causing individual color differences.
3.Color difference caused by production personnel mistakenly mixing raw materials of different grades together or scraping products of different brands on the same wall.
4.There is a color difference between the putty just applied and the putty applied previously. This is normal because the putty just applied has not dried yet, while the putty applied previously has dried completely. There is a difference in color between the wet putty and the dried putty. Just wait for the putty just applied to dry, and the color will be the same as the previous putty. This is also normal
5. After the putty construction is completed, some putty has color difference. This is due to the heavy calcium in the raw materials of putty powder. Because heavy calcium is processed from heavy calcium ore, the color of heavy calcium ore is different due to different batches, so there is color difference after putty construction. Don't worry about this situation. It has no effect on the quality of putty powder. It is normal. If you don't want color difference after putty construction, we recommend that you calculate the amount when buying putty powder and buy the required amount at one time, because the same batch of heavy calcium ore will not have color difference.
Putty powder should be white. If the ingredients are not appropriate, it may turn into light yellow or other colors. The base putty should be white. Putty powder can be added with color, but if it is not mixed well, it will become flowery. It is recommended to use finished putty powder.
If you want to paint the balcony wall with latex paint, putty powder is the raw material for plastering, which is specially used as the base of latex paint. It cannot be used as latex paint for painting. If the base of the balcony wall latex paint is intact, without peeling, cracking and other problems, you can first use coarse sandpaper to sand off the current latex paint on the wall, and then re-apply new latex paint. The color is added to the latex paint, not to the putty powder.
Putty is normally white. If you want other colors, you can also buy color essence. Generally, it is sold wherever you buy putty powder. There are many colors, and you should be able to buy what you want.
02 Treatment method:
1.Color difference is generally not a formula problem, so there is no quality problem. For example, the wall to be painted can generally be
covered with a paint film, which will not affect the overall decorative effect. If color difference appears on the wall after two or three coats of unpainted wall, it is recommended to apply another coat of putty powder or paint without color difference.
2.All personnel involved in production and construction should strictly follow relevant standards to avoid man-made quality problems.
If there is a color difference in the putty, will it affect the effect of the subsequent latex paint? How to deal with it?
If there is a color difference after the putty is applied, we recommend that you add a little more water to the primer and a little less water to the topcoat after the putty is polished. Because putty is a basic leveling material, not a finishing material, and latex paint must be applied on the putty layer, so you don't need to worry too much about the color difference of putty.
