In the field of modern building decoration, tile adhesive has become a popular choice to replace traditional cement mortar with its excellent bonding and water resistance. However, construction "turns over" phenomena such as hollowing and falling off are still frequent, seriously affecting the quality and appearance of the project. In-depth exploration is not difficult to find that the lack of high-quality raw materials is the root cause of these problems.
As the cornerstone of tile adhesive performance, the quality of cement is crucial. If its setting time and strength are not up to standard, it will lead to insufficient bonding of tile adhesive. Among the many raw material additives, HPMC (Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose) plays the role of "performance optimization master". With its excellent water retention and thickening properties, it can effectively delay the evaporation of water in tile adhesive, buy time for the full hydration of cement, and thus significantly improve the bonding strength. In a tile paving project of a high-end commercial office building, due to insufficient HPMC addition in tile adhesive and poor water retention, cement could not be fully hydrated. In just three months, large areas of tiles appeared hollow and fell off. The use of high-quality HPMC products can not only ensure that the mortar has good workability and operability during the construction process, but also buffer the impact of ambient temperature changes on the performance of the mortar to a certain extent, ensuring that it always maintains stable working performance within the suitable construction temperature range of 5℃ - 35℃.
In addition, the selection of aggregates should not be ignored. High-quality aggregates with uniform particle size and low mud content can make the internal structure of tile adhesive more compact and enhance its overall strength. If the aggregate mud content is too high, it will weaken the adhesion between the mortar and the tiles and the base layer; unreasonable particle size may cause uneven smearing of the mortar and form hollowing hazards.
High-quality raw materials are not only a guarantee of product performance, but also a prerequisite for smooth construction. From cement to HPMC, from aggregates to other additives, the quality of each raw material directly affects the final performance of tile adhesive. Only by strictly controlling the quality of raw materials, carefully checking the quality inspection report when purchasing, and deeply understanding the composition and ratio of key additives such as HPMC, can we avoid construction "turnover" from the source and create high-quality and durable tile paving projects.
