Putty is a decorative material that can be used as a surface material to apply to walls, ceilings and other areas. Putty powder is divided into waterproof putty and ordinary putty, with different performances, applicable areas and construction effects. What is the difference between waterproof putty powder and ordinary putty? Let's take a look!
The difference between waterproof putty powder and ordinary putty
1.Adhesion. Ordinary putty has poor bonding strength, generally only about 0.25Mpa, and the strength will gradually weaken after being exposed to rain or soaked in water. Waterproof putty has high bonding strength, greater than 0.5Mpa, and can maintain bonding strength after being exposed to rain or soaked in water.
2.Water resistance. Ordinary putty is not suitable for humid environments. It is easy to reduce the strength when in contact with water, causing the putty layer to powder, peel, and even crack, hollow, and fall off. Waterproof putty is a material that has been tested for waterproofing. It has no abnormalities after being immersed in water for 48 hours. After construction, it can have the same life as the wall.
3.Hand feel. Ordinary putty is relatively rough, and the powder is easy to clump after being stored for a certain period of time. After the waterproof putty is applied, the surface is smooth and delicate, giving people a delicate hand feel, and can be used as a finishing layer.
4.Alkali resistance. Ordinary putty has no alkali resistance and is prone to alkali crystallization when encountering alkaline substances. Waterproof putty is alkali resistant, can prevent the base from alkali return, and is not easy to mold.
5.
6.Dosage. The construction dosage of ordinary putty is 7~8kg/㎡, and the construction dosage of waterproof putty is 3~5kg/㎡. Therefore, the construction dosage of waterproof putty saves about 30% of materials compared with the construction dosage of ordinary putty.
7.Cost-effectiveness. The price of ordinary putty is lower than that of waterproof putty, but waterproof putty has good construction effect, strong adhesion, good water and alkali resistance, and less construction amount. Calculated according to the construction amount and overall construction cost, waterproof putty has a higher cost-effectiveness.
Waterproof putty construction process
1.Clean the base surface first and remove uneven areas. Moisten the wall surface 24 hours in advance and keep the base surface free of visible water before construction.
2.According to the ratio of clean water to putty powder, add clean water first, then pour in the powder. Use an electric stirrer to stir until it becomes a uniform paste without particles. Let it stand for about 10 minutes and stir again for better construction effect.
3. Use local repair methods to level and repair cracks on the base surface and areas with large flatness errors. Ensure that the base surface is flat, dry, and free of oil stains, and the construction thickness is controlled within 0.5-2mm.
4. When applying putty, use a spatula to scrape the waterproof putty onto the wall in the up and down direction. Apply it once and reduce the number of times you apply it back and forth. After the first layer of putty is dry, apply the second layer of putty. Generally, 2 to 3 times of application is enough. Then level the putty layer and check the flatness of the putty layer with a level ruler. Polish the putty surface as soon as possible to make it smooth. After polishing, water it for maintenance and let it dry for 4 days before proceeding to the next step of construction.
5. Other materials, such as other adhesives, lime, cement, etc., must not be added during the construction process.
